Moog Filtered Ale is no ordinary ale. Asheville Brewing made a limited release batch or so to benefit the Bob Moog Foundation. For those who don’t know, Bob Moog is dude who pretty much changed the face of music with the synthesizer way back when. Along with Лев Сергеевич Термен (yeah, I went Cyrillic, assholes – calling him Leon is fucking wicked passé), he’s pretty much the dad -dad-daddy-o of electronic music. (Not that bullshit you hear at the “club,” though. At least not in my mind.)
Oh yeah, back to beer.
This pale is rather drinkable. The attack is cranked up pretty high, with a nice bitter hop resonating on your tongue. The decay is quite nice – a great bitter aftertaste oscillates as much as you let it. Only a few frequencies are covered, though – I’d like to see a few more octaves reached. Perhaps we’ll see a darker, more complex Moog Oscillator Barleywine in the future…?
The cutoff is a bit quick – I just wish this bomber had infinite sustain.
We’ll just have to wait a little while and see how pleasant the release is…
Might as well get gratuitous. I already did with the synth-geek-puns.
